Rich history
Anyone driving up the long, tree-lined driveway to the Waldhotel with its large dark green shutters will recognize it immediately: The Waldhotel combines state-of-the-art hotel and conference facilities with historic, stylish charm. After all, the building was opened in 1926 as a "parking garage" with twelve guest rooms. At the time, it was still owned by the town of Heiligenhaus.
After the east wing was added and expanded in 1955 and 1961, Hartmut Wegener and Jürgen Neumann acquired the building in 1988. Mr. Neumann, tenant of the Hugenpoet Castle Hotel, and Mr. Wegener, who had international careers in the hotel industry, including in the U.S., Mexico and France, presented the town of Heiligenhaus with a convincing concept for the "parking garage." The two, who had met at hotel school, realized the concept together so that the newly designed building with restaurant and 32 hotel rooms could be opened in May 1989 under the new name "Waldhotel."
The Waldhotel quickly grew to become one of the top addresses for private and business guests. In line with increasing demand, the Waldhotel was repeatedly expanded over the years and the room capacity was doubled. Apartments and two conference rooms were also added. In 1993 a wellness area was built in the hotel and in 1997 and 1998 the bright winter garden was constructed. In 2003, partners Jürgen Neumann and Hartmut Wegener opened the new conference center.
